Performance: April 24, 7 p.m.
Workshop: Writing can be a solitary endeavor with little feedback or perception of what your voice “sounds like." Learning how to craft a story for listeners can hone those skills for you.
In this 3-week, 2 1/2-hour class you will discover a framework for selecting, perfecting and performing personal stories through a combination of instruction and interactive, playful exercises. Students will uncover their private reserve of stories, learn to organize a story for telling, share feedback with the other storytellers and become more comfortable presenting to an audience.
The class meets on April 10, 17 and 24 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with a low-key performance at 7 p.m. on the last Saturday.
Instructor Bio: Penelope Starr founded Odyssey Storytelling Series, a monthly event at the Club Congress in Tucson, six years ago. As producer and artistic director, she’s coached hundreds of people who have told personal stories at the performances. She’s also taught storytelling classes through Pima College and conducted workshops for community groups, businesses and organizations. She writes a blog for the online Tucson Citizen, “Telling Stories”, and is in the process of writing a book about her experiences producing a community storytelling event.
