Advanced Fiction Workshop

Class Description: Advanced Fiction Workshop (Novel or Short Stories). This 6-week workshop will give each participant an in-depth conversation on at least one short story or novel chapter. In addition to traditional workshop, each session will include facilitated craft conversations among peers at an advanced level, based on weekly assigned reading by masters of the genre. This workshop is appropriate for those who have completed an MFA in creative writing (accomplished poets and memoirists exploring a shift in genre are welcome), have published in contemporary literary magazines, and/or whose writing sample demonstrates similar accomplishment.

Teacher Bio: Shannon Cain’s short fiction has been awarded a Pushcart Prize, an O. Henry Prize, a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and a special mention in Best American Short Stories 2008. Her stories have appeared most recently in Tin House, the New England Review, and The Massachusetts Review. She co-edited Powder: Writing by Women in the Ranks, from Vietnam to Iraq (Kore Press, 2008). Shannon has taught fiction writing at The University of Arizona and now teaches at the Gotham Writer’s Workshop and as a private coach. She earned her MFA from Warren Wilson College in 2005 and is now the fiction editor for Kore Press.
