In this workshop we will focus on developing key scenes--those anchors to any short or long work of nonfiction or fiction--the meatiest, heartiest scenes that drive the story. This is a generative workshop meant to focus on what drives the story, which actions to concentrate on drawing out, and how to bring art to their edges.  Participants will leave the workshop with three developed and active dramatizations of events toward future use as stand-alone stories or chapters. Useful for nonfiction, memoir, and fiction writers.

Lidia Yuknavitch is the author of The Chronology of Water, a memoir which won the Reader’s Choice award at the 2012 Oregon Book Awards, was a PEN Center finalist for Creative Nonfiction, and placed on practically every regional Top 10 booklist for 2011. Dora: A Headcase, her debut novel has been optioned by Katherine Brooks, a veteran writer-director who operates her own Big Easy Pictures production company. Yuknavitch’s latest novel, The Small Backs Of Children, was released on July 7, 2015. She teaches writing and literature in Portland, Oregon.

Lidia Yuknavitch will be reading her work at Casa Libre the evening of October 31.
